I absolutely adore this book! Treska's work is in our classroom collection, right alongside classic authors like Elsa Beskow and Sibylle von Olfers. The children in our Waldorf kindergarten delight in the story and how much it reflects the joyful work we do each week to bake our own bread. Batistine is such a rich, inspiring character - so worthy of imitation! This is a sweet, wholesome tale children of all ages can delight in.

I love this book. The story of baking bread is a "must" for young children, and Treska's exquisite illustrations delight me. I particularly like the way she captures the dynamics between Batistine and the farm animals- such a loving innocence!
