Buzzy and the River Rats, Book III

Romance and Adventure

John Clarke Hoffman

Illustrated by Eric Hilgerdt

Small-town life during the 1950s in the Catskills continues with more adventures and mishaps for a group of young teenaged friends.

It is late in the summer of 1954 in the Catskill Mountain town of Delhi, NY. John Hoffman, Buzzy Fancher and the other members of the River Rat Gang are about to enter ninth grade at Delaware Academy. As a last summer adventure they explore the old Delaware Academy school building nd get more than they bargain for. Autumn finds the River Rats plotting to disrupt the high school Halloween party. Winter brings tobogganing and exploring an abandoned barn; spring, an encounter with the tough uptown Trucker gang in the old powdered milk factory.

A great series for children reading fluidly at 5th grade or beyond, these stories are wholesome, interesting and well-written tales of a Catskill mountain boyhood. John Hoffman, a Waldorf School teacher, finally managed to write down the stories which he had been telling for years to students at Green Meadow Waldorf School. Now many more can enjoy hearing about the adventures of Buzzy Fancher and the River Rats.
